AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Test Course


We all enjoy the company of dogs, but being a respectful, well-mannered dog when out in public is an important part of that. The CGC program is a great program to help evaluate, and certify, that your dog has the training and behaviors needed to be a reliable, well-behaved member of our community.

This course will consist of 4 in-person meetings:
Three prep classes to help you and your dog prepare and practice the 10 skills needed to pass the CGC test. Class dates are January 10th, 17th, and 24th at 6:00pm
One Test day: Saturday, January 27th at 10:00am

The 10 skills required to pass the test are:
1. Accepting a friendly stranger
2. Sitting politely for petting
3. Appearance and grooming
4. Walking on a loose leash
5. Walking through a crowd
6. Sit and Down on cue / Staying in place
7. Coming when called
8. Reaction to another dog
9. Reaction to distractions
10. Supervised separation

NOTE: This test is performed with your dog on leash wearing a flat-buckle collar or body harness. Additional training tools such as an electronic collar, prong collar, or head halter are not permitted.
